I've been here a few times, and will go back.

The basic layout has been explained by others below, so I'll talk about the other services and amenities. They have every sort of crazy massage and rub; you can have almost anything cool rubbed on your body, like milk or chocolate. They will also scrub your skin 'til there is not one dead skin cell left. There is a fat reducing treatment, but when I tried to order, the desk attendee giggled and said it's more for women. Ah well.

I've had massages here at the upper and lower levels, and they are all done well. The lower level booths are off to the side, with same sex masseuses. The upper floor has rooms with televisions; I watched sports while getting my back rubbed, once.

I once spent the night in one of the VIP rooms, just to see. It was OK, with a nice view of the lake, and the city on the other side. But the amenities were not as luxurious as you would find in the Westin or Radegast. Still, it was very relaxing.

I visited, or slept, at the Block 8 Hot Springs Club last night. I plan on going back. The fee to get in and enjoy almost all of the facilities is 158 RMB. That includes indulging well beyond what 158 RMB would normally offer; sauna, buffet, inside and outside hot baths, shower, and more are all included. I suggest a strategy of successively hotter pools leading up to the sauna. Jump in a few of the hot water pools, enjoy the in-pool Jacuzzi, the high pressure water jets, sauna, then jump into the cold water pool. Lastly, shower and mosey over to the buffet and enjoy a leisurely meal and a beer (Guinness =20RMB) before retiring in the main sleeping area.
Headphones and TV are provided for each “bed.” Get up the next morning and shuffle down to the same pools and saunas, take a dip, shower, shave and then go to work looking more relaxed than anyone else.

Tip: Each “bed” initially looks more like a sofa but reclines to the flat position. Changing the channel on the individual TV is best done at the bottom of the monitor. Lastly, bring ear plugs to block out other’s snoring.

Even though the hot springs club is in a huge building, somehow I’ve missed it each time I’ve gone to any of the Block 8 bars or restaurants. Block 8 doesn’t get enough good press. In fact, I haven’t really seen it mentioned anywhere except on this website.
Once inside, the attendants take care of everything. There is a place to lounge, sleep overnight, eat, get online, shower, stay inside or go out all without leaving the confines of the hot springs club. And all of this for a fairly trivial entrance fee. Massage and having someone bathe you is extra.
On the men’s side there are several large pools some heated to temperatures in excess of 40C. They also have saunas with large pans of salt to rub your body smooth.
The sleeping area is a large room with comfortable chaise lounge beds each with its own swivel flat screen TV and headphones (to keep the place quiet for sleeping).
There is no need to bring anything. Good shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, towels, pajamas, etc are all provided as part of the entrance fee.

Once item of import: don’t arrive after 10pm and expect to get a place to crash. The lounge like beds are very comfortable and thus are snatched up on a first come first served basis.

I wanna chew up some reviews!

I agree about the fishes, and the hot spring and the sauna.

I had quite a new and decent experience, of course the hot spring was scaldingly hot, the staff shud have informed me, or maybe it said it on the board, I didnt just see it.

This was an awesome place to walk in, you have the 2 rows of girls bending and welcoming you, polite staff who takes your clothes and shoes, and all that.

Finished the spring, sauna and shower and reached the massage floor.

The girl directed me to this shady lookin room with many small beds and people sleeping. I thot I was rich that day, and decided I shall indulge myself and asked for a really expensive and good massage in "deluxe" room.

No doubt, the room was nice and clean, with plasmas, clean sheets, etc.

I chose the "aromatic something" massage for 398 rmb for 1 hour.

What I got was some 18-19yr old girl who walks in with a tiny bottle of "aromatic oil".

She puts 2-3 drops on my shoulders, rubs it for about 20-30 minutes and then tells me its over.

I am like WHAT??? No way, I just paid 398 for a few drops of oil on my shoulders. Then she informs me that this oil has "rejuvinating and rengerating" proprties, and just from rubbing into my skin from certain points at my shoulder, the "miraculous" effects of the oil shall be absorbed by my whole body!

Now, I might not be well versed in the art of "regenerating massages" but for that amount, it was a complete dose of the below mentioned "laowai" rip-off!

I go down, ask for the manager and explain to him the situation. He says yes, thats what it is and that the "xiao-jie" had explained it and its also on a board on the wall (which is only in chinese)!

They refused to give my shoes till I paid the full amount, and he said he shall make sure that someone informs me 2 times the next time I go there. I end up paying 650 rmb somehow (even though 138 + 398 = 536), but they said after "something and something" thats the amount I have to pay.

After arguing for bout 20 minutes, I was just fed-up paid and left.

But for the facilites they have, I still give it 2 stars.

OK, so Chandler who said sexism was dead in this city! Girls, if you want to be nibbled by fish then I am afraid you are going to have to go elsewhere. Yes, you got it it's a guy thing! Not even when we pleaded and asked for a few of the little nibblers to be brought to us by the bucket would they budge.

Otherwise, they will scrub you 'til you are raw with all manner of good things - salt, honey, milk - enough for any women to feel like Cleopatra. So no need for the nibblers after all... which starts you wandering why you guys liked them so much....

A word of warning - watch out for the classic laowai rip off - yes if your Chinese isn't that hot you will find yourself paying for extras you didn't know existed. In fairness a quick discussion with the manager should sort it out, but remember to pack a friend who speaks some good Chinese for even this to be sorted out - luckily we had just the girl for the job!

Handle in the Middle

Can I get a show of hands from all of the folks that have proved an urban legend true?… anyone… anyone? Right! To be completely honest I didn’t either but I was among a group of guys that did.

I am, of course, talking about the legend that there are people who allow carnivorous fish to nibble their dead skin away until they’re silky soft. Loofha? Please! That’s so last week. How about sitting in a pool with tiny fish that feast on your skin? I admit I was a bit apprehensive at first but after a short while I was thinking to myself, “woohoo, look at ‘em go!!!” and “hey, don’t go there!”

Although the tiny fish were bizarre 8 Hao Hot Springs Club was a great find.

One hundred and thirty eight RMB will get you into this exclusive complex. The price of admission affords one free reign of the facilities (indoor and outdoor hot spring baths, saunas and areas where one can read in peace, catch up on some much needed rest, etc.) and a very tasty all you can eat buffet.

Too tired to wash up? Outsource that pesky daily chore to someone who, like it or not, can probably do the job better than you. Note to the bashful: the staff are well trained – no areas are overlooked.

Whatever you wish, it can be had for a fee. Salt rub? Check. Honey rub? Check. Milk rub? Check, check, and check. It’s decadence, ala carte.

Men and women are segregated except for those areas where each is able to freely parade around in comfy pajamas (provided).

After four hours hot spring soaking, sauna’ing, showering and red light electric body dryers I must say that it was a very pleasurable experience.

I’m going back!
