| It seems that with its increasing popularity, Nola is suffering from the inability to cope with more patrons. There is enough seating--I've never had to wait for a table, but it seems that of late I have been served smaller portions of food than before and even denied beignets because they ran out! Isn't that one of their signature menu items?! Today (Saturday noon) was a perfect example. The chicken and waffles, I could have sworn, used to include at least a couple pieces of chicken. Today, there was just one scrawny chicken leg on the plate with a few waffles. And the "large" jambalaya, while served on their larger plate, seemed like it was the same amount as the small portion! The jambalaya was literally spread out flat on the plate to take up the entire plate space. There were two orders of it at my table and they were both that way. About an hour later, I saw someone else at a table nearby order a small jambalaya and it was piled high. Then, when we tried to order beignets, we were told they didn't have any. We brought a friend there just to try it so it was really disappointing. Anyway, the food is delicious still...but I am worried that it won't stay that way if the kitchen can't manage and keeps running low on ingredients! If I were to rate this a couple months ago, I would say 4 stars. Today, 2 stars. |

First, the high point: the food here is really good. Split a large number of appetizers, sides, and the chicken and sausage jambalaya around the table - each dish was very tasty. The jambalaya and the spinach and artichoke appetizers were the favorites of the table. Andouille sausage in Beijing - definitely something to go out of your way for!
On the other hand, the service here was not very good, especially considering the price. My first drink (a bottle of beer!) took over 10 minutes to get to the table. The "made at the table" bananas foster should also be avoided - the portable burner didn't work and had to be replaced, and the bananas were left sitting in the pan half-cooked. After the ice cream was scooped on, the waitress left to get fresh spoons, then served, with the ice cream almost completely melted. Then the check had some trouble - we were using a coupon from the Little Gold Book, and had to send it back three times to get it sorted out.
I'd really like to like this restaurant, because the food was really enjoyable. But the service took a lot away from it. |

I live close to Nola and am a regular. While I love the variety of food (delicious omelette for breakfast or a pork chop for dinner) something has become increasingly obvious on subsequent visits: the service standards are falling. Let's face it: service in Beijing is never going to match that of Shanghai and we accept it. BUT it would be nice to be greeted once you've sat down with a MENU or a glass or water. In one case, it was 15 minutes of nothing (gee, I was really hungry that day or I would have left). I went in yesterday (Sunday) for brunch. I placed my order and the couple sitting behind me placed theirs. The waitress came back from the kitchen a few minutes later, "Sorry, we can't make any food until 11:00am." It was 10:20. I agreed to wait. I noticed that the spoon on my table had dried food particles on it (sweet potatoes, I think). Around 10:45 a HUGE fight broke out in the kitchen. It sounded nasty (was someone angry about having to prepare our meals?!). Finally one of the people working at the bar went in the back and broke it up. All in all, not the way I planned to spend my Sunday morning.
Nola has the potential to go from a "good" to "excellent" restaurant. The food is already there. Now it's time to increase the professionalism of the waitstaff and back kitchen. |

| Quaint little New Orleans themed restaurant with a very nice rooftop terrace. I didn’t eat but the background music is better than most around town. Inexpensive drinks and moderately priced fare. Absolutely worth another visit but best to bike to and fro since taxis can be hard to flag down. |

| The last time I went to Nola I didn’t walk away impressed. The location and 2nd floor deck have always been great but the food and service left me very unsatisfied. Fast forward 6 months and everything seems to have changed. The service was prompt and the food was fresh and tasty. I was also very impressed with the menu. There is a wide variety of things to choose from at prices that are very reasonable. |

I am quite surprised at both of the bad reviews on here - I love Nola's location in a gorgeous, leafy and secluded part of the Embassy area, their food menu offers a good variety of authentic dishes, and their drinks are extremely reasonable (for example 35RMB for a kir royale!) As for service, the staff bent over backwards for a recent dinner that I had out on the terrace (I made a reservation in advance) and were not in the least bit phased that I wanted them to craft a bespoke set menu (they even tailored the drinks to match every course, and did a drinks tasting beforehand). Dinner went wonderfully, with great food, unobtrusive service, glasses topped up, all courses served at the same time, and no muddles with food choices.
I am also a daytime regular, and service is always prompt, polite and efficient.
Nola is a gem. |

| I went once and I swore not to go again. The service was bad, very bad... They mixed your order, the service was so slow and the restaurant was not super full. I have to agree that the food is not bad but honestly, I'm used to bad service in China, this one was the worst. One star for the smile, they smile always even when they realized they made a mistake, try to change things but sorry guys, not working... |
