Tried the new Taj at Euro Plaza, which is to be Shunyi's first proper shopping mall- so far just a handful of shops are open, including a cold stone creamery and a couple other restaurants.
I had become a bit jaded with eating Indian in Beijing as some places just don't always nail many of the basics properly, especially tandoori chicken. I think you need an Indian in charge of the kitchen who knows the food inside out from cooking it back in India for the locals.
However on this trip, all the selections hit the spot, with excellent tandoori chicken, naan, tikka and vegetable curry. The service was good, although there were few other customers so that's to be expected.
The menu is extensive and regardless of your interest in this kind of food you will be able to find some choices that are familiar. Now all you need to do is trek out to Shunyi for the experience |

I have never actually set foot in the Taj Pavillion but I have their food delivered regularly. The Palak Paneer is out of this world with the Chicken Tikki Masala close behind.
The spicyness is just right and the food is not too oily as I have experienced with other Indian food in Beijing. It is a bit expensive - the Masala is around 80rmb - but we keep coming back because we just can’t find anyone else who does it as good!
We had one situation where we thought we were going to have to give up our beloved Indian food when they changed the recipes to a much less spicy version. But when we expressed our dislike - they responded immediately that they will make it with the original spiceyness if we just request it! The last order was perfect once again.
I highly recommend the Taj if you are needing a good Indian food fix. |
