I've been to Propaganda twice and I'd say it has its ups and its downs. Wednesday night is all-you-can-drink, 50 for girls, 70 for guys. Liquor is rumored to be fake, so I decided to avoid it and stuck to Bud Lights all night, which was a nice change of pace from the usual Chinese beers. While the people there aren't too friendly and I just felt like the place was full of itself, it was a good time and it was packed. The downstairs has a small but good enough size dance floor with seating somewhat overlooking it, while the upstairs is more of a typical bar with several booths. For a Wednesday night it is definitely a good option, as it should always be hopping. I'd guess that the ethnicity mix there was about 60-40 in favor of foreigners, but that's definitely an estimate. It should also be of note that there is really nothing else to do in the Haidian/Wudaokou district in terms of dancing, so if you don't want to head to Sanlitun, Propaganda may be your best bet.

lets start by recognizing that this place holds a monopoly in wudaokou... its the only semi-western "club" that plays (very outdated) commercial music you can dance to. this is the environment all the out-of-town first-time-away-from-home students thrive in.

so...unless you're an 18 yr old single looking for heavy petting with a stranger for one night, skip this place.

extra drunken sweaty students (lacking good deodorant) looking to score make up the crowd here. If you're over 21, you'll be the grandfather of the masses.

the drinks are BAD (vodka that came in a plastic gallon should NOT be poured into a Grey Goose bottle, why must everything be faked in China?) and theres waaaay too many people. whats up with the people that actually wait in line to go in there?
kind of overpriced and over hyped.

oh, and one final qualm... clubs MUST have western toilets, if they cater to western people... you know how hazardous it is to have girls in heels that arent used to squatting try to do this on a slippery floor while drunk??
theyre lucky you cant sue for these kinds of things in china.

love it!
very tongue in cheek, although at the end of the night the tongue will probably belong to someone else.

If you have ever spent any time in Beijing, especially Wudaokou, or as a student in Haidian, then chances are you have been to Propaganda.

While some people don't like the place because the atmosphere can be a little rowdy at times, it really is a great club for the under 25 crowd. I have been coming here on and off since 2004 when I first arrived in Beijing, and now that Zub has turned into a pizza joint :(, its the only real "club" in WDK.

Because of this, its PACKED on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and its really not that expensive either, people do warn about their mixed drinks but I have been there dozens of times and never gotten sick (fingers crossed)

Another feature of propaganda is that crowd is very international, while there are allot of Koreans because its WDK, on any night its filled with students from the local universities from every country you can think of here studying Chinese.

For me Propaganda will always be part of my Beijing experience and continues to be a solid fun night out.

The only problem is that WDK is SO FAR AWAY if you live and work in Chaoyang, so I don't find myself out there as often. If WDK managed to get more clubs in the area then I would think about coming out more often because the scene in Sanlitun/Gongti Beilu/Chaoyang Gongyuan can get old.

黑夜给了我黑色的眼睛,我却用它来寻找光明...

Propaganda is a tough one. I was going to comment that ' Propaganda is propaganda, that's all I need to say.' But, actually, I have more to say.

Propaganda is known for having cheap and fake drinks that are almost poison, empower you to puke and puke, and puke.( But trust me, there are worse ones out there in Beijing. )It gathers the strangest crowd that are dancing on the stage or everywhere in the dance floor shamelessly, making out as if there was no one watching or everyone was watching. One thing beyond my understanding-they charge black, Korean, Russian and some other racial groups A LOT more than normal for them to get in, but, never stops drunk and nasty guys harassing girls.

It's about the fact that there is really not many options in Wu and it basically is a meat market.

Yet, almost everyone of us( whoever used to be Wu crowd) has been there and many of us used to or still keep going back. It is the place that I will start laughing if my mates told that's where they went to, but I won't be surprised if they told me they had a fun night.
