The few times I’ve visited Union to eat or meet for a drink it’s always been at night but yesterday I discovered they have a surprisingly good breakfast. It’s none too cheap but it’s good. I ordered the two eggs with toast, ham, hash browns, rye bread and coffee. My friend ordered the spicy chicken wings (for breakfast), eggs benedict, and a coffee. Together our bill totaled 225 RMB. Not exactly an inexpensive way to start the day. Nevertheless, I was impressed that the eggs were done exactly how I had requested and that the ham was in fact two thick slabs of real ham. The rye bread was thick and again, the real thing. Hash browns were a bit anemic but in the end it didn’t matter because I couldn’t finish everything anyhow. And, like every diner in the USA, there were free refills on the coffee.
For an American breakfast, this turned out to be a surprisingly good place. I will be back!
