This is place is a real find and a nice compliment to the dining scene in Beijing. It took over the location of a noticeably down at heel local restaurant and for a reasonable budget transformed it into a pleasant & clean environment with a well priced menu and a great roast duck meal.

For a little less than 80 rmb you get a duck that can fill a table of four with a few side dishes added in. Service was efficient and organized, not common in this city. The duck meat was perfectly cooked with the meat being juicy and high quality. The skin was not too fatty and if anything a bit overcooked- but then that's a personal preference.

We also ordered the onion potato pancakes which were magnificent and way better than any other version i have tried here. I highly recommend them as a compliment to the duck and for 20rmb its also a great deal as its almost a meal unto itself.

One ask: it would be nice to tone down the wattage on the strip lighting for something less harsh.

I walk by Jing Zun most days on my way home and its always busy with foreigners and locals alike and can accommodate over 200 ppl with the spacious interior and large deck. There are other high profile duck joints that you should take a visitor or business acquaintance to (Da Dong's, Made in China etc.) but if your not trying to impress anyone and just want a quality Chinese dining experience at good prices, definitely go here.

Hopefully this formula is the thin end of a wedge in Beijing, I call it affordable premium. That is, the same ingredients as the high class offerings but offered in a less pretentious environment and at a price that makes it an everyday option. The new Fubar inside Gongti is another example of this concept being brought to life for the betterment of the consumer. Its a business strategy that is not based on the usual egregious 'maximum margins= maximum profit' model that pollutes Beijing. Instead its a moderate margins+ maximum customer satisfaction=maximum profit mindset that is a win-win for everyone. But it takes a truly enlightened business owner to take this road which is still, inexorably, the road less travelled
