Dont read this if your eating.. Took a friend to this pricey Sanlitun restaurant for her birthday on a Saturday night-surprised to see it was mostly empty during our stay given its reputation, however it was at the end of Golden Week. The interior is Miami meets Shanghai and its situated round the corner of Bellagio on Gongti Xilu, the club zoo experience
Things started out OK, the starters were interesting and the drinks were decent. Then everything changed when.......
a big hairy 12 legged creepy critter came marching across the table towards the birthday girls dinner plate.
After a moment of "Is this really happening, is it April 1st, am I hallucinating, this place does look like the mad hatters tea party" I picked up my napkin and shocked and awed our little guest into the table, leaving a big light brown skid mark for reference. Niiice.
I then brought the eviscerated insect carcass to the attention of the staff, who professed shock and awe but not so much that you begin to wonder if this is a regular occurrence- after all, critters on the dining table=animal planet in the kitchen?
The staff politely informed us that our meal would be free and after some consideration my friend and I decided to stay, after all, it was just a bug so lets make the most of the rest of the dinner and order up.
......10 mins go by when a waiter, with a mobile glued to her ear, presumably connected to a fat controller somewhere else, informs us that in fact the dinner is now NOT free, but they will comp us the two soft drinks but we had to pay for the rest, and like it....
Its at this point that my friend and I get up, issue a few expletives and depart; and no we did'nt bother to settle up. Now I was in shock and awe but left my name card and told the staff to get the big cheese to call me to discuss the situation. An apology was all I was looking for and I then would happily pay the tab.I even held off posting this tirade, which is quite an indictment of them, hoping they would contact me in the meantime to discuss. But alas, no call and its been about 2 weeks.
The question that I have for Green T House is this: 'What is more profitable for you, earning an extra hundred bucks or having this tawdry tale make its way into cyberspace? Its stories like this, over time, collectively, that will denature your reputation- and that is the business mate.
