A friend took me to this Sichuan style restaurant the other night, and I really enjoyed it. A local favorite, we had to wait a few minutes for a table, and even once we sat down, the table still had to be cleared. It was quite reasonably priced (about 40RMB per person for five dishes, rice, and a few drinks), and the service was friendly, especially considering the frantic nature of the place. Despite the local crowd and a Chinese speaking waitstaff, the menu had big pictures of every dish and an English translation to go with it, making ordering pretty easy if Mandarin isn’t your thing. If you want an authentic Chinese dining experience and don’t mind some clutter and noise, I would definitely go for it. Footnote: if you aren’t big on spicy foods, neither Xiongdi nor Sichuan in general may be right for you, it’s quite a kick in the mouth.
