Honestly, when I want Italian food in Beijing, I stay in and cook. This is not because I am good at cooking; neither is it because I am Italian; it's because an Italian friend of mine taught me how to do about 3 basic pasta dishes, and I really can't say they are much worse than Italian restaurant food I've had in Beijing. This, however, is set to change because Ciro's Pomodoro (of Knightsbridge) has just opened. The opening bash over the weekend featured their wonderful (if a bit strange) home-made ice-cream (tomato flavoured), delicious pizza, and little tastes of three types of pasta dish (different to the ones I can cook!); nice quality wine was served too (until they ran out due to sheer volume of people and volume of alcohol consumption). It was difficult to get a feel for the space due to it being full of people mainly standing, as all the tables were taken, but the buzz was great. Roll on the weekend, when I'm going back for more. To locate it - look for the big tomato near Sanlitun Eric's!
